About 35 years ago, I gathered a group of young literary talents for an adventure that, at the time, was a real challenge: the publication of a bilingual newspaper, in Spanish and English, where we could express our Latinidad and share our stories.
For the inaugural edition (which I still keep bound), I interviewed the unforgettable Argentine singer Mercedes Sosa and writer May de Lora Alcalá, friend, confidante – and character – of the author of The Kiss of the Spider Woman. The launch was a grand celebration at the Casa de España, but, like so many independent projects, the publication couldn’t withstand the crisis at the end of the 80s and had to be discontinued.
Since then, almost four decades have passed. The interviewees are no longer with us, and I left the country, settling in the US. But now, thanks to technology and the new possibilities of the publishing market, I dive into a personal and exciting project: bringing "Mezcla Latina" back to life as a literary magazine, published on Amazon and innovating with Spanglish texts.
I vividly remember when a note in La Nación from Buenos Aires brought me dozens of articles and stories for the old publication. Now, the time has come to finally publish them, giving them new design, new life, and a global reach.
